Ford City’s Great Basketball History

2010 January 12

Many of you saw George Guido’s well written piece in the Valley News about the 100th anniversary of Ford City’s first boy’s basketball game. If you didn’t know, Ford City’s game last night at Freeport marked 100 years to the day since their first game. I’m disappointed that Ford City hasn’t done more to celebrate 100 years. Most people still think of basketball when they think of Ford City High School. Of course the FC girls have recently added to the tradition. Besides the winning teams and packed out games the 79 PIAA team, and WPIAL Champions of 38, 39, and 48 will forever be part of FC folklore. Of course “Red” Mihalik, who is regarded as one of the best referees in history and is the Basketball Hall of Fame, left a major mark on FC’s storied basketball history. Now the question is what will the next 100 years bring?

What do you think was the most memorable moment, game, team, or person in Ford City Boys Basketball History over the last 100 years?
