WPIAL Playoffs: Mt Pleasant Football Rundown

2009 November 4

Like I said yesterday – of all the teams from the Allegheny Conference in the playoffs, I wouldn’t trade our opponent with anyone. Mt. Pleasant has a football website www.mpvikings.com that you might want to check out.

Mt. Pleasant was 4-5 last year and missed the playoffs. This year’s squad is senior-led, with strengths on both lines. They’re a run-first team, with a lot of seniors. Their main weapon is RB Bryce Ansell, who runs behind a decent-sized line, and might be the best back the Cats have faced this year. The linebackers for KHS will be key, and will be asked to make a lot of tackles. However if he is stopped, then Kittanning will win this game. MP also has a solid defense their key men in this game will be senior safety Tim Ferree and DB Eric Wagner. They’ll be in charge of stopping the Cats’ passing attack.

I’ve been warned twice by people outside of Armstrong County that Mt. Pleasant is really good, but we’ll see on Friday.

It’s mpVIKINGS.com…not mpVINKINGS.com. Honestly, since you’re in love with Kittanning, please tell them to save there gas and not even show up. The outcome is not going to be pretty. Look a little deeper into their weapons…they’ve got many more weapons than just Ansell. Kittanning might not even score on that defense!

Hey there buddy just wondering why I am not seeing anything from the fans of MP. Looks like you are very biased about what you let onto your blog. Everything that I am reading doesn’t have Kittanning going very far at all. There is alot that you don’t know about MP Vikings, we are very rich in tradition alot more than I think Kittaning. It looks like you guys have not won any championships. So hey Rizzo STOP BLOCKING ALL THE MP FANS!!!!!!!
    WE ARE MP GO VIKINGS!!!!

MP Alum – I’m not blocking any MP fans, just didn’t have time to approve the comments. I hope I get more comments from MP fans, the more the better. Kittanning seems hot right now, are playing they best they have all season. Plus their passing game is clicking, they might give MP a good game. I guess we’ll see on Friday.

You are a very biased sports writer. You have not obviously spent any time watching the Mount Pleasant Vikings. They have many more weapons than just Bryce Ansell. They have a very strong line headed by Brandon Bunting and Dylan McElfresh. Kitanning will have a tough time against the Mount Pleasant offensive line, trust me.

Where is the love for the Mt. Pleasant Vikings? I guess beating GCC and Jeanette and going undefeated in arguably one of the most talented conferences in AA means nothing. Look for MP to unleash some anger on Friday and beat Kitanning

Alright – Mt. Pleasant Fans, First off this site and related TV show covers Kittanning – So yes we are biased. However I don’t think we’re that biased. As a columnist, not a sports writer I feel that MP is a good match-up for Kittanning, especially considering the other 4 or 5 teams Kittanning could have been match-ed up against. The MP Vikings certainly had a great season, but it’s very hard to compare conferences since all games are inter-conference. I guess we’ll see on Friday night. I’m very excited the MP fans have been visiting our site, and engaging in discussion. If any MP would like to write a report on their team or a follow-up story after the game, I would love to post it to the site, feel free to email us.

Hey “admin,” why don’t you ask “MPAlum93″ or “VikingsFan1986″ about Mt. Pleasant’s so called lack of playoff tradition? Actually, make sure you ask the VikingsFan1986 person for sure. We understand that you’re gonna be a little biased, but can you at least get your facts right about the other team before you post something? Admin, you’re right, though, ANYONE could come out winning this AA bracket. It’s THAT competitive! If only the other three brackets were that competitive. 2-7 teams, or teams with a losing record for that matter should never be in the post-season…ever! What’s the accomplishment? I agree with “Hecla Hottie” too…no love for the interstate for some reason…come on. Mt. Pleasant should have been ranked # 1. Good thing they weren’t though. I wouldn’t like to be playing Beaver. Many papers have Beaver as the favorite over the number one seed! We’ll see tonight! Who is this Hecla Hottie by the way?

Maybe MP needs to get a better PR person, as they certainly fall a long third behind GCC and Jeanette is press mentions. I certainly don’t recall much about MP in the last 10 years.

Looks like MP doesn’t need a PR person. 45-6 speaks volumes! :o ) You thought this was going to be a good match-up for Kittanning, remember? I’m just a little confused about someting. Did Kittanning send their varsity squad or JV team by mistake? Running clock to boot…nice and quick for a cold November evening. Teams who have the mercy rule enforced on them in playoff games probably shouldn’t be there in the first place. I recall that MP got more than half of those points without their “main weapon,” Ansell. Looks as though MP has many more weapons than what you originally thought. Hey, at least Kittanning avoided the shutout on that garbage hail mary pass to end the game. That is something positive your boys can build on for next season. I forgot to ask: Did Freeport win? Anyway, you probably will delete this post as well…but it’s been fun. Give your team some advice: Lift with intensity, run a boatload of sprints, work hard on basic fundamentals like play execution and takling, and MAYBE our teams MIGHT meet again someday. But, for now, MP is just too big, too strong, and too fast. That’s how it goes…teams with a rich program and a storied playoff tradition usually make it a minimum of a round or two. Kittanning did fight hard, however. I gotta give them that much. They were in this game for the first few minutes at least!

You guys are lucky to be on the easy side of the bracket. Sorry about the injury to Ansell, he seems like a great player and kid. Any chance he will be able to play if you reach the finals, wouldn’t want the quips beating up on Mt. Pleasant without their #1 player.
