The Elderton Effect

It’s not being talked about much, but the closing of Elderton High School has had and will have a huge impact on local sports.
Certainly the addition of the Elderton girls was a key factor in West Shamokin winning a WPIAL Volleyball Title and possible a state title. Next year, it’s likely West Shamokin will move up a classification in volleyball and soccer, not to mentioned it should keep them in AA football and basketball.Apollo Ridge could move down in Football and other sports, without the addition on Elderton kids. Just by adding a few Elderton students could keep Ford City in “AA”. Speaking of Ford City, their boy’s basketball team will also have a different look now. The Elderton impact will be felt across the local sports scene for a long time.
