Pirates Season Re-Cap Part 2

Alright today we’ll look at the pitching. Maholm, Duke and Ohlendorf at least look like solid 3rd to 5th starters. Capps is not a closer on a .500+ team, and the bullpen lacks two power arms. The pitching is certainly the major cause for concern moving forward. You don’t win in Majors without a pair of aces, the Pirates have a pair of 4s. I think they thought they had better pitching than what they really did. You can’t count on anyone acquired in the last 2 years to be a solid pitcher. I’m not sold on Morton. I don’t think they can count on anyone from the minors either. If they want to have a team anytime in the next three years they need to bring in arms. Unfortunately I don’t think they’ll be in the Aroldis Chapman sweepstakes. Pitching Final Grade: D
