PSU Overrated

2009 September 21

psu logoPenn State is ranked number #5 in this week’s AP college football poll. They’re ranked #5 based on what? They’ve played Akron, Syracuse, and Temple. They’re ranked on potential but as we know, pre-season potential means very little. If I was voting, I would easily rank Miami, Cincinnati, and Boise St. ahead of them because their 3-0 records are more impressive. I know they schedule these games far in advance, but certainly they knew these games would be easy wins. If Florida State can play BYU, and Nebraska can travel to Virginia Tech, PSU can certainly get a tougher game than Temple. You can say PSU hasn’t looked superior to Pitt this year. Next week they play Iowa as their conference scheduled has started. Instead of earning their ranking, they’ll play to justify it.

I am a long time PSU fan and a PSU grad…but I couldnt agree with you more. Coming into the season I could not figure out why PSU was ranked so high after losing their receivers, secondary, some lineman…it just didnt make sense. And, lets face it, after 3 lack-luster performances against weak teams they did not deserve to move up the rankings. And then, to my surprise, the national media continued to talk this team up saying how they dismantled Akron and Syracuse…no they didnt. They beat them, yes, but looked very sloppy doing so. I would not be surprised if we lose this week to Iowa as well as to Ohio State and, possibly, Michigan. I dislike Pitt…a lot…but I have to agree that so far Pitt has looked more impressive than my lions…
