Pirates’ Plan has Holes
Neal Huntington’s plan to turn the Pirates into to contenders still has a long way to go. Assuming his prospects work out, the Pirates at best will have the outfield and corner infield positions covered. To contend for a title it’s no secret you need good pitching, and right now the Pirates don’t have an elite 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation. They have a bunch of end of the rotation guys in the majors now, and more of the same in the minors. Besides the pitching, if Bucs trade Jack Wilson and Freddy Sanchez, they’ll have a hard time filling in those holes. Good middle infielders are becoming increasingly scarce, and teams will not want to part with them. Either way the Pirates are going to need some long term solutions in the infield and on the mound, and they won’t be playoff contenders until they find them.
