Freeport H.S. Sports Year in Review – 08-09
Freeport certainly was consistent in athletics this school year. Freeport is also the only local school fielding a team in each of the four big WPIAL sports for girls and boys. All eight of those teams play in “AA”. The YellowJackets were finally able to break through and make it to the Football Playoffs this year. The boys and girls soccer teams both made the playoffs with 8-3 section records. The boys were able advance to round two. The Girls’ Volleyball Team, won another section title after a perfect regular season, but could only manage one playoff win. The Girls’ Basketball team made the playoffs, but softball and baseball came up short. It was solid year for the school, that pretty much was right on expectations. They’ll look to build of this, and hope for some better postseason success next year.
Unfortunately I don’t I have space in the Kittanning Paper to go into more detail. I’ve approached these reviews as more of a review the school’s athletic programs, and not a congratulatory message to the teams, as I try to cover those accomplishments in separate columns. I’m also not looking at individual preformances becuase they reflect more on the individual’s own desire to succeed than they are a barometer of the school atheltic programs.
***Freeport does have multiple individuals participating at the state track and field finals.
